Dosing Checklist for Beginner Reefers
Interactive Dosing checklist for Beginner Reefers. Track your progress with priority-based items.
Dosing does not need to feel intimidating when you break it into a simple routine. This checklist helps beginner reefers set up two-part or kalkwasser safely, test the right parameters, and make small adjustments that support steady coral growth instead of chasing numbers.
Pro Tips
- *Test alkalinity at the same hour each day for one week before deciding on a maintenance dose, because daily timing differences can make alk consumption look larger or smaller than it really is.
- *If you manually dose two-part, add alkalinity at night or early morning and calcium later in the day to reduce the chance of localized precipitation in small beginner systems.
- *For nano reefs under 30 gallons, use syringes or graduated containers marked in mL instead of estimating capfuls, because even a 5 mL mistake can noticeably change dKH.
- *When trying kalkwasser for the first time, run plain fresh water in your ATO for a few days first to confirm the top-off system is reliable before adding any kalk powder.
- *If your alkalinity keeps dropping even though calcium looks normal, check magnesium before increasing alk dose aggressively, since low magnesium can make balanced dosing much harder to maintain.
