Pest Control Checklist for Saltwater Fish
Interactive Pest Control checklist for Saltwater Fish. Track your progress with priority-based items.
Pest problems in a marine aquarium rarely stay isolated for long. Aiptasia, flatworms, red bugs, and coral-eating nudibranchs can spread quickly, stress fish and corals, and turn a stable reef or FOWLR system into a constant maintenance battle if you miss early warning signs.
Pro Tips
- *Mix at least 10 to 20 percent extra saltwater before any flatworm or Aiptasia treatment session so you can respond immediately if corals slime heavily or fish show breathing stress.
- *When dipping montipora or Acropora, use a white inspection bowl so tiny nudibranchs, red bugs, and dislodged worms are easier to see against the background.
- *If you use peppermint shrimp for Aiptasia control, confirm they are the correct species and reduce broadcast feeding temporarily, because well-fed shrimp often ignore nuisance anemones.
- *Mark infested colonies with a small removable tag or rack position note so you can repeat inspections on the exact same coral every 3 to 5 days without guessing.
- *After removing a visible Aiptasia, inspect within a 2 to 3 inch radius for baby polyps, because new outbreaks often appear around the original site rather than elsewhere in the tank first.
